Fabricator
  • Candidate must have good co-ordination, mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity, knowledge of related mathematics and workplace regulations
  • Ability to interpret drawings, to develop a logical sequence of operations and to layout/mark steel for cutting, burning, sawing, shearing, punching, rolling and bending, and straightening include many of the required essential skills
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates, which may include related activities at a customer job site


Required Skills

  • Thorough knowledge and operating experience with lathes, milling machines, brake presses, shears and iron workers, metal cutting saws, grinding and a variety of related hand fabrication tools
  • Ability to understand and work from engineering drawings, rough sketches, manuals or verbal instruction of a technical nature
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work on one’s own and self-starting
  • Ability to life up to 40 lbs
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of computers
  • Able to do repetitive work
  • Stand or sit for periods of time
  • Work safely and ensure the safety of fellow employees
  • 4-7 years of related experience in a machine shop and metal fabrication environment. Alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments


Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the OSHA, regulations and internal policies and procedures.
  • Using or wearing the equipment, PPE that Blue Giant requires.
  • Reporting to his or her supervisor any contravention of the OSHA, regulations, or Blue Giant policies and procedures.
  • Reporting any observed hazards to the supervisor.
  • Reporting any risks or potential risks of violence or harassment encountered in the workplace immediately to supervisor.
  • Not removing or making ineffective any protective device without providing an adequate temporary substitute. When the work is completed, the original protective device must be replaced immediately.
  • Not using or operating any equipment, machine, device or thing or otherwise working in a manner that may endanger anyone.
  • Knowing, understanding and implementing safe work practices and procedures.
  • Attend all required Health and Safety training programs (ex: WHMIS, orientation) and applying knowledge to daily operating procedures at Blue Giant.

Special consideration to individuals with:

  • Manufacturing industry experience.
  • Experience with metal fabrication shop machinery (examples):
  • Brake press
  • Lathes
  • Drills
  • Saws
  • Grinders
  • Etc.
Education:
  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
