Pipe Layer

Team member is responsible for the proper installation of underground utilities. Core Competencies:Effective communication skills; must be able to understand and speak EnglishWorking knowledge of all applicable OSHA standardsAttention to detail and accuracyWillingness to react to changes in priorities Core Duties:Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints, and coordinating layouts with supervisors.Operate mechanized equipment such as pickup trucks, rollers, tandem dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes.Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.Install and repair sanitary and stormwater sewer structures and pipe systems. Be a mentor to laborers by teaching them proper techniques of pipe installationBe punctual, dependable and professional at all timesWork with cost effectiveness, profitability and safety in mindLead by exampleLead the safety effort by recognizing and correcting hazards as soon as they are presentArrive at work prior to designated work start timeAttend daily safety and project coordination meetingEnsure that pipe is installed properly to avoid leaks and on the correct gradeInstall and remove safety devices required for work operationsAssist in unloading delivered construction materialsAssist in locating existing utilities to avoid damageKeep track of tools during work hoursCommunicate time away from work with your team leader and other team members with sufficient notice to make plans for changing personnel to focus on the prioritiesWillingness to work hours as required Education/Training/Certification:OSHA TrainingTrenching and Excavation Competent PersonRiggerFlaggerFirst Aid and CPR* Sanford Contractors is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer* Labor Activities– Physical RequirementsMust be able to lift more than 50 lbs, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders regularly. Work involves frequent shoveling, raking, using hand tools and handling materials in and around trenches or uneven terrain.
