Job Overview:
The Direct Support Staff focuses on empowering individuals to access essential services, overcome challenges, and cultivate a sense of community well-being. It emphasizes building upon their existing strengths and interests to promote personal growth and meaningful engagement.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 1-2+ years of experience working with ID /ASD/DD individuals and families.
- Valid PA driver’s licensure and insurance
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to think strategically and implement solutions.
- Obtain and successfully pass background checks
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and participate in activities that provide purpose and responsibility.
- Join and participate in community activities, organizations, groups or associations to develop personal networks.
- Support individuals in achieving the goals outlined in their personal plan.
- Facilitate community integration and social engagement by participating in various activities alongside clients.
- Assisting with daily living tasks, the individual maintains a safe, clean, and healthy environment by performing light housekeeping tasks as required.
- Provide comradeship through meaningful activities in and outside of the community offerings, such as reading, walking, volunteering and engaging in shared interests.
- Accompany clients to appointments as needed, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Participate in team meetings to share observations and insights regarding client progress.
- Collaborate effectively with clients, families, and other professionals to respect and address each individual's unique needs and preferences.
- Utilize strong communication skills and empathy to build trusting, supportive relationships with those in your care.
- Helping with technology to support with budgeting and general financial supports.
- Seek out prospects for training and education and/or adult learning opportunities.
- Complete and maintain accurate client documentation, including treatment plans, progress notes, and session summaries, in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client information in accordance with HIPAA or applicable privacy laws.
- Flexibility in work schedule, with evening or weekend hours to accommodate clients’ needs.
- Able to use the computer and various web-based applications for timesheets, mileage.
- Proficiency with Microsoft word and use of the internet.
Documentation and reporting

- Understand that documentation protects the participant and the program
