Pay:$19.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday 8am-5pm
The City of Dallas is seeking dependable and hardworking individuals to join our team as a Fuel Laborer / General Laborer I. This position performs a combination of fuel island operations and general labor duties supporting City facilities, equipment, grounds, and infrastructure. Candidates should enjoy working outdoors, performing physical labor, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Essential Job DutiesFuel Laborer Responsibilities- Maintain and clean the fuel island, including:
- Cleaning fuel spills
- Emptying spill buckets
- Wiping down fuel dispensers
- Keeping the fueling area clean and organized
- Complete daily paperwork and reconcile fuel deliveries.
- Activate fuel pumps for authorized customers.
- Follow all fuel handling and safety procedures.
- Perform manual labor supporting City departments with maintenance, repair, and construction projects.
- Assist with concrete and asphalt repairs, including mixing, pouring, and spreading materials.
- Help install storm drains, sewer lines, and water mains.
- Load and unload tools, equipment, and construction materials.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, jackhammers, mowers, and other equipment safely.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Direct traffic using cones, barricades, and other safety devices.
- Dig trenches and ditches; remove debris, vegetation, and litter.
- Clean drainage systems, streets, sidewalks, medians, parks, and public facilities.
- Cut grass and maintain landscaped areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in general labor, landscaping, construction, maintenance, or municipal work is a plus.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials.
- Ability to safely use or learn hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Strong attention to safety and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Dependable with excellent attendance and punctuality.
- General mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds or more.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
