Culinary Specialist

Position Summary:

Provide residents with nutritious, well-prepared meals served with compassion, professionalism, and attention to individual dietary needs while maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety.

Schedule:

4:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Reports To:

Dietary Director

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, portion, and serve meals, snacks, desserts, beverages, and supplements according to menu and therapeutic diet requirements
  • Assist residents during meal service with professionalism, patience, and empathy
  • Maintain accurate documentation of dietary changes, meal intake, and resident requests
  • Operate, clean, and maintain kitchen equipment following sanitation and safety standards
  • Wash dishes, cookware, and kitchen utensils in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Monitor dishwasher temperatures and ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed
  • Assist with food receiving, storage, and inventory organization
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing staff, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding resident dietary needs
  • Support a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and dining environment
  • Participate in training, in-services, and facility initiatives as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Previous food service experience preferred
  • Long-term care or healthcare dietary experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write, follow directions, and perform basic math
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and therapeutic diets
  • Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds during shifts
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments and safely handle cleaning chemicals and kitchen equipment
