POSITION SUMMARY:
The Early Learning Center Teacher implements a high-quality, inclusive learning environment by pairing the Creative Curriculum with bilingual and bimodal instructional strategies. This multifaceted approach supports diverse language learners, enhances cognitive development, and builds the foundational literacy, math, and social-emotional skills necessary for Kindergarten readiness
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Prepare lessons plans using evidence-based assigned curricular (such as the Creative Curriculum), supplemental resources and tools such as Thinking Maps
- Implement a variety of instructional strategies and differentiated instruction with students of varying abilities and diverse backgrounds
- Comply with state mandated NYS Standards while modifying instruction to support students’ progress towards expected standards
- Administer appropriate assessments to track student progress
- Write IEP goals in a timely and data-driven manner
- Comply with school policies and procedures
- Support the school’s Strategic Planning initiative with an emphasis on strengthening culture while demonstrating commitment to the school’s purpose, vision and mission.
- Develop and implement behavior intervention plans, teach self- regulation strategies, and manage classroom crises using evidence-based techniques
- Act as a primary contact for parents while working alongside speech and language therapists and other related service providers to ensure an individualized and enriching learning environment for all students
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators
- Demonstrate knowledge of content area
- Ability to establish rapport with build professional relationships with students
- Excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills
- Demonstrate ability to use technology (SMART board/TV; laptops; iPads) effectively to support instruction
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- New York State Certification-Teacher of the Deaf
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Google Suite
SECURITY CLEARANCE:
- Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of walking in and around the building
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
