Position Overview
Trout Trucking Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Safety Specialist – Equipment to support fleet safety and regulatory compliance.
This position focuses on company and owner-operator equipment compliance, DOT inspections, roadside violations, Out-of-Service (OOS) management, equipment documentation, and coordination with Maintenance.
The ideal candidate has experience in trucking, fleet safety, DOT/FMCSA compliance, or transportation maintenance compliance and understands the importance of accurate documentation and timely corrective action.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain compliance records for company trucks, trailers, and owner-operator equipment.
• Track annual DOT inspections, equipment documentation, and expiration dates.
• Maintain owner-operator equipment files and required inspection documentation.
• Review roadside inspections and identify driver, vehicle, and OOS violations.
• Track equipment-related violations and compliance trends.
• Review CSA impact associated with roadside inspections and violations.
• Ensure inspections, violations, and corrective actions are properly documented in company tracking systems.
• Coordinate with Maintenance regarding inspection deficiencies, equipment defects, and required repairs.
• Verify corrective actions and repairs have been completed and properly documented.
• Monitor annual inspection and preventive maintenance compliance.
• Review equipment compliance related to tires, brakes, lighting, emergency equipment, placarding, and equipment defects.
• Maintain accurate FMCSA, DOT, CSA, inspection, and equipment compliance records.
• Prepare routine compliance reports.
• Support internal safety reviews and DOT audits.
• Maintain organized and accurate equipment compliance files.
Qualifications
• 2+ years of fleet safety, transportation compliance, maintenance compliance, or related experience preferred.
• Knowledge of FMCSA and DOT equipment regulations preferred.
• Understanding of CSA and roadside inspection requirements.
• Experience with Samsara Fleet or similar fleet management systems preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with drivers, owner-operators, Maintenance, Operations, and management.
