Job Summary


Midwestern Career College (MCC) has an opening for a Sterile Processing Adjunct Instructor to support the Sterile Processing program at the Evergreen Park and LaSalle Campuses.


MCC is seeking part-time adjunct instructors who can provide instructional and laboratory coverage during the evening Evergreen Park Campus as well as designated daytime laboratory sessions at the LaSalle Campus.


This is an in-person teaching position. Only local applicants will be considered.


Requirements:


Responsibilities


•Prepare for and instruct established and approved curriculum in a professional manner.

•Review and discuss syllabus requirements with students at the beginning of each term.

•Ensure students understand and follow classroom, laboratory, infection prevention, and safety policies.

•Maintain professionalism within the classroom and coach students on professional behaviors expected in the Sterile Processing profession.

•Manage classroom activities, including lectures, student assistance, demonstrations, competencies, and hands-on laboratory instruction.

•Monitor student attendance and punctuality and address attendance concerns as appropriate.

•Record student attendance, grades, and student interactions accurately and within required timeframes in the Student Information System (SIS).

•Work closely with the Director of Sterile Processing and Lead Instructor to address academic, attendance, behavioral, and retention concerns.

•Advise and support students regarding issues that may affect their educational success.

•Recognize when students require additional academic support and initiate tutoring, warnings, or student support plans as appropriate.

•Prepare and organize the laboratory for instructional activities, including equipment, supplies, surgical instruments, and training materials.

•Assist with maintaining the quality, organization, inventory, and functionality of laboratory equipment and instruments.

•Attend required training and professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of Sterile Processing standards and instructional practices.

•Provide instructional coverage at the Evergreen Park and LaSalle Campuses as needed.

•Ability to interpret basic arithmetic, measuring units, and mathematical computations relevant to Sterile Processing.

•Commitment to institutional policies, professional standards, confidentiality, and standards of conduct.



Education & Experience


•Associate degree in Health Sciences or equivalent preferred.

•Must hold a valid and current professional Sterile Processing certification through either:

•Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or

•Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA).

•Sterile Processing/Surgical Services experience strongly preferred.

•Previous teaching, training, precepting, or instructional experience is a plus.

•Candidates should possess strong knowledge of Sterile Processing principles, infection prevention, decontamination, surgical instrumentation, preparation and packaging, sterilization, sterile storage, and distribution.



Schedule & Campus Flexibility


This position supports the instructional needs of the Sterile Processing program across both MCC campuses. Applicants should understand that the position may require flexibility between evening instruction at Evergreen Park and daytime laboratory instruction at LaSalle.

Instructional Schedule


Candidates should have flexibility to provide instructional coverage during the following scheduled hours:


•Evergreen Park Campus – Evening Schedule: Wednesday and Thursday, 5:00 PM–9:30 PM

•LaSalle Campus – Daytime Lab: Wednesday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM

•LaSalle Campus – Daytime Lab: Friday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM


Instructors may be asked to provide coverage at either campus based on program needs, including coverage for scheduled vacation, PTO, instructor absences, and other instructional needs.
