Who are Hospice Volunteers?
Volunteers at Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice (CVHHH) provide support to patients and their primary caregivers. They are carefully chosen and trained to help ensure that patients and families continue to feel connected to their community. This is a free service, offered as part of the CVHHH hospice program made possible entirely by people like you.
How Volunteers Make a Difference?
No two volunteer roles look the same. CVHHH Hospice Volunteers can provide support before and after a patient’s death. Depending on your interests and availability, you might:
- Regularly scheduled companionship for patients.
- Respite visits for primary caregivers.
- Assistance with light housekeeping tasks.
- Running errands for patient and/or primary caregiver such as grocery shopping, mailing items, pharmacy and medical equipment pickups.
- Veteran to Veteran companionship.
- Preparing light meals and assisting with pet care & gardening.
- Visiting with bereaved families.
- Supporting hospice events, such as the Annual Hospice Remembrance Service.
- Relaying patient/family needs and concerns to the Hospice Team.
- Dinners with Love meal delivery.
- Assisting the Bereavement Coordinator with grief support groups.
- Therapy dog visits (patient facilities only).
- Patient emergency preparedness.
- In-office administrative support for the hospice team, patients & caregivers.
