Position Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for the repair, maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of machinery and equipment within the pistachio processing plant. This position ensures all mechanical systems operate safely and efficiently to minimize downtime, maintain production levels, and support food safety and quality standards.
Essential Functions
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on conveyors, motors, pumps, and other processing equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment issues.
- Disassemble equipment, replace defective components, and reassemble machinery.
- Assist in the installation, setup, alignment, and integration of new machinery and equipment.
- Follow all company safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements and proper use of PPE.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair documentation, inspection reports, and inventory records.
- Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and maintenance schedules to supervisors and production personnel.
- Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns and restore operations promptly.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with GMPs, safety requirements, food safety programs, and company policies.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance machinery safely.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification or vocational training in mechanical, industrial, or maintenance-related fields preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of maintenance mechanic experience preferred.
- Experience in food processing, manufacturing, or industrial environments preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Basic math and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
- Food manufacturing and processing environment.
- Exposure to dust, noise, varying temperatures, and moving machinery.
- Indoor and outdoor work may be required.
- Exposure to pistachios and other tree nut allergens.
- May work in confined spaces and elevated locations.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
