Behavior Support Staff/Skill Builder Staff

Behavioral Support Staff provide individualized behavioral support to adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ID/DD/ASD) who receive waiver-funded services. Staff work collaboratively with the individual, family members, guardians, caregivers, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Behavior Specialist, Supports Coordinator, service providers, and other members of the individual's Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).

Staff support the implementation of approved behavioral support strategies and interventions as outlined in the individual's Individual Support Plan (ISP), Behavioral Support Plan (BSP), and other applicable service documentation. Behavioral Support Staff assist in identifying behavioral patterns, triggers, environmental factors, communication needs, strengths, and effective strategies that promote safety, independence, self-advocacy, community participation, and quality of life.

Through regular communication and collaboration with families, caregivers, and service providers, staff promote consistency in the implementation of behavioral strategies across home, community, employment, and other settings. Staff provide ongoing observations and feedback regarding the individual's progress, changes in behavior, potential triggers, and the effectiveness of current interventions.

Behavioral Support Staff accurately document services, observations, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with agency policies, waiver requirements, and applicable Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) regulations and guidelines. Staff participate in team meetings and contribute information to support the ongoing review and modification of behavioral strategies when appropriate.

All behavioral support is provided in a person-centered, trauma-informed, least-restrictive, and culturally responsive manner, with an emphasis on dignity, individual choice, positive reinforcement, skill development, and the individual's right to live, work, and participate meaningfully in their community.
