HOUSEKEEPER
Job Summary:
The Housekeeper is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and servicing assigned areas to maintain a
sanitary, safe, and orderly healthcare environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This position supports
infection prevention efforts and assists in maintaining compliance with hospital cleanliness and safety
standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings and equipment and mopping floors with approved
cleaning solutions and disinfectants to help prevent the spread of disease. Uses disinfectant-treated
cloths and vacuum cleaners to clean windowsills, blinds, floors, furniture, and equipment in an orderly
manner. Scours and polishes sinks, tubs, mirrors, and other equipment.
• Assembles materials and supplies from the supply room and transports them to assigned work areas.
• Replenishes supplies of soap, towels, and other dispensable items.
• Reports mechanical failures or unsafe conditions observed in assigned areas to the Environmental
Services Supervisor or appropriate department personnel.
• Gathers and disposes of trash, washes wastebaskets and refuse containers, and relines them with
plastic bags.
• Removes soiled linens and transports them to designated collection areas.
• Periodically polishes floors using buffing and polishing machines.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Adheres to the facility’s Standards of Excellence.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of common housekeeping tools and cleaning equipment such as mops, floor machines,
and cleaning solutions.
• Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals and follow proper dilution and usage procedures.
• Ability to recognize potential hazards and maintain a safe environment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous cleaning experience in a healthcare or institutional setting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to perform prolonged standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the work shift.
