Safety Inspector

This position is located On-site in our Bayou La Batre location.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct daily safety inspections across all production areas, including fabrication shops, vessel modules, vessels, and blast/paint facilities to collaboratively promote best practices, encourage safe behaviors, identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Monitors production personnel during operations, providing guidance and immediate solutions to ensure compliance and improve worker safety. Identifies hazards, unsafe practices, and noncompliance issues, and recommends and verifies corrective actions.
  • Support and enforce company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA maritime standards (29 CFR 1915, 1917, 1918).
  • Participate in incident and near-miss investigations; assist in root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive action development.
  • Observe and document “hot work”, confined space, Job Safety Analysis, and high-risk operations to verify permit compliance.
  • Inspect safety systems (fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, ventilation, harnesses, rigging, fall protection, etc.) for readiness and condition.
  • Inspects equipment, tools, and workspaces; works collaboratively to address deficiencies and remove unsafe items, when necessary, while ensuring continuity of operations. Conduct and document toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and focused training as assigned.
  • Reinforces company safety policies through coaching and support to employees and contractors to reinforce safe behaviors and stop-work authority, aligned with our safety manual and regulatory standards.
  • Performs administrative tasks and supports record-keeping of safety documentation, inspection logs, and regulatory compliance records that contribute to a responsive and well-organized safety program.
  • Collaborate with the Health Safety & Environmental Manager on implementing HSEQ programs, audits, and compliance reporting.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of safety procedures.
  • Support environmental and quality assurance tasks as part of the integrated HSEQ function.


Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of safety experience in an industrial, construction, or maritime environment (shipyard preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA maritime safety standards and general industry safety practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and control hazards in welding, lifting, electrical, and confined space operations.
  • Excellent communication and observation skills; able to work collaboratively with multiple trades and supervisors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Microsoft 365 for documentation and reporting.
  • EMT or Paramedic with first aid and medical emergency management
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to move safely across shipyard environments (stairs, ladders, uneven terrain).
