CERTIFIED MEDICATION AIDE

Position Purpose
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) provides compassionate, person-centered support to Villagers while assisting with medication administration, daily living needs, and individualized care.
Working collaboratively with Nursing, Assisted Living leadership, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, the CMA helps promote each Villager's health, safety, independence, and overall well-being. Support is provided in a way that respects individual preferences, abilities, routines, and choices while encouraging Villagers to remain as independent as possible.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Supporting Villager Health and Medication Needs
- Administer medications in accordance with applicable regulations, physician orders, established procedures, and Annandale Village policies.
- Accurately document medications administered or declined and maintain required medication records.
- Monitor medication supplies and follow established procedures for medication storage, handling, and disposal.
- Observe Villagers for potential medication side effects, adverse reactions, or changes in condition and promptly communicate concerns to Nursing.
- Obtain and document vital signs, weights, blood pressures, and other health information as directed and within the scope of the CMA role.
- Support Villager health needs and communicate relevant observations to appropriate members of the care team.
Providing Person-Centered Daily Support
- Support Villagers with activities of daily living and other individualized needs in accordance with their service plans, abilities, preferences, and goals.
- Encourage Villagers to participate as independently as possible in personal care, daily routines, activities, and community experiences.
- Provide support in a manner that promotes dignity, privacy, choice, comfort, and quality of life.
- Build positive relationships with Villagers and provide individualized support based on their needs, preferences, and communication styles.
- Assist Villagers with appointments, activities, community outings, and other meaningful experiences as assigned.
Documentation, Communication, and Teamwork
- Complete required medication, clinical, behavioral, ADL, and service documentation accurately and timely.
- Observe and promptly report changes in a Villager's health, behavior, or overall well-being.
- Maintain clear communication with Nursing, Assisted Living leadership, and other team members to support continuity of care.
- Participate in Villager transitions, team meetings, required training, and quality improvement activities as assigned.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with Villagers, families, coworkers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Maintain Villager confidentiality and protect personal and health information.
Promoting Safety and a Welcoming Environment
- Follow infection prevention and control practices, Universal Precautions, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Help maintain Villager living spaces and shared areas in a clean, safe, comfortable, and home-like manner.
- Identify and promptly report safety concerns, incidents, equipment concerns, or changes that may affect Villager well-being.
- Provide First Aid, CPR, and emergency assistance when required and within training.
- Transport Villagers and support other Assisted Living needs as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain required certifications, training, and competencies.
- Follow Annandale Village policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties in the best interest of Annandale Village and the Villagers we serve.
Required Qualifications
- Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification in good standing and compliance with applicable Georgia certification requirements.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to read, write, communicate, and follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
- Ability to accurately administer and document medications within the scope of CMA responsibilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, acquired brain injuries, assisted living needs, or other support needs preferred.
Employment Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must maintain all certifications and training required for the position.
- Valid Georgia Class C Driver's License, proof of insurance, and acceptable MVR as required for employees operating Annandale Village vehicles.
- Must meet applicable driving-experience requirements established by Annandale Village.
- Must pass GBI and FBI background checks, including fingerprinting.
- Must pass drug screening and tuberculosis screening.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, stoop, and perform responsibilities associated with supporting Villagers throughout the workday.
- Ability to provide hands-on assistance with mobility, positioning, transfers, personal care, and activities of daily living.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds independently and move up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to safely assist Villagers in and out of vehicles.
- Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and emergency response duties as required.
