CASHIER

Purpose: To quickly and accurately ring up customer purchases and provide excellent customer service.

Supervision: The Cashier is hired by and accountable to the Front End Manager and Front End Supervisor.

Position: Level 1 / part-time or full-time hourly w/benefits

Required Schedule

Tuesday - 4:00 pm - 9:15 pm

Wednesday - 4:00 pm - 9:15 pm

Thursday - 4:00 pm - 9:15 pm

Responsibilities:

• Provide outstanding customer service to all store patrons according to Open Harvest customer service guidelines & policies.
• Accurately enter prices and product categories at the register.
• Accurately process, debit/credit card or EBT card transactions etc.
• Maintain accurate paperwork throughout shift & reconcile drawer as necessary.
• Maintain the physical appearance of the Front End area, including cleaning countertops, organizing bags, keeping carts and baskets in order, keeping supply drawer organized, sweeping and dusting, cleaning up spills, keeping the store clean.
• Maintain familiarity with specials, sales, in-store promotions, and programs.
• Stay up-to-date with communication within the department by reading the communication log daily.
• Stocking and facing and other grocery tasks as requested
• Responsible for completely adhering to store opening and closing procedures.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by Front End Manager or FES

Physical Requirements

• Indoor work in retail store – often cold due to multiple coolers.
• Lifting as much as 30-40 lbs at a time
• Bending and twisting: general cashier movements
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking
• Pushing and pulling: grocery items from one side of the counter to the other etc.
• Typing, writing and similar activities: using keyboards, writing communication.
• Changes in temperature due to proximity to outside doors.
• Fine motor skills for cash handling and bagging.

Qualifications:

• Ability to operate cash register, calculators, and all credit/debit card machines
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure
• Knowledge of natural and organic foods is preferred but not a requirement.
