Job Summary

The Environmental Services (EVS) Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the operations of the Environmental Services department in a healthcare facility. This includes maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff in compliance with regulatory standards and infection prevention guidelines. The Director serves as a key leader in supporting patient satisfaction, safety, and quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Management

    • Oversee daily operations of the EVS department, including housekeeping, laundry, and waste management.

    • Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate EVS staff.

    • Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and quality standards.

    • Manage departmental budgets, staffing levels, and resource allocation.

  • Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Joint Commission, OSHA, and CMS standards.

    • Collaborate with Infection Control to implement cleaning and disinfection protocols.

    • Conduct regular inspections to ensure cleanliness and safety of patient rooms, operating rooms, and common areas.

  • Patient & Staff Engagement

    • Foster a culture of service excellence, ensuring patient satisfaction with cleanliness and comfort.

    • Work with nursing and clinical staff to address environmental concerns promptly.

    • Serve as a liaison between administration, clinical departments, and environmental services.

  • Operational Effectiveness

    • Implement best practices in cleaning, waste reduction, and sustainability.

    • Maintain inventory and manage vendor relationships for cleaning supplies and equipment.

    • Utilize technology and data to monitor performance, track KPIs, and drive improvements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Environmental Services, Hospitality, or related field (preferred).

  • Minimum 5–7 years of environmental services or facilities management experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role (healthcare experience strongly preferred).

  • Knowledge of infection prevention, healthcare sanitation standards, and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage budgets and lead large, diverse teams.

  • Leadership: Ability to motivate, coach, and develop staff.

  • Customer Service: Commitment to patient-centered care and service excellence.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, and state/local guidelines.

  • Operational Efficiency: Skilled in workflow optimization, staff scheduling, and resource management.
