Job Description
Position Summary:
Responsible for underwriting new and existing loans for the Corporate Banking team. Assist teams in portfolio management activities. Ensures portfolio achieves soundness, profitability, and growth objectives.
Skills and Experience:
- 2+ years’ credit and work experience related to various aspects of middle market banking
- Must be able to spread, analyze, and interpret complex financial statements
- Must be able to prepare stress projection models and analyze relevant financial and covenant ratios
- Must be able to identify and address strengths and weaknesses and risk and mitigants embedded in loan requests
- Must be able to prepare credit memos/reports as part of the credit approval process
- Proficient knowledge of credit policy, banking regulations, and loan documentation issues is required
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be able to verbally communicate effectively one-to-one and in groups
- Must be able to write clearly and effectively
- Must be able to develop and maintain cohesive, cooperative working relationship with co-workers
- Must have good personal organization and time management skills
- Must understand and work effectively within the credit culture of the company
- Must allocate time effectively and independently prioritize workload to meet timelines
- Good mathematics, reading comprehension and writing skills
- Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.

- Support Corporate Bankers in managing existing and developing new client relationships
- Assist the team in qualifying new loan requests with early-stage due diligence activities
- Assist in the underwriting process for new clients (analytics, valuation models, industry research)
- Lead the underwriting of existing client renewals, loan modifications and periodic credit reviews
- Prepare credit approval memos and related documents for use in the credit approval process
- Assist in monitoring individual client accounts to include loan covenant validation, trend analysis
- Assist in training and coaching new underwriters and new team members
- Continue to grow in understanding complex transactions and related risk (credit, market, operations, legal/compliance, etc.)
- Special projects as needed
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years of credit and underwriting experience, preferably in Middle Market
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from internal clients, regulatory agencies, and employees
- Advanced knowledge of related state/federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank operational policies
- Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, including use of word, excel, and office
- Advanced math skills
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
- Effective organizational and time management skills
Position Type:
This position is a full-time, exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
