SY26/27 Reading Specialist
Job Description
Summary: The literacy teacher is a specialist in all aspects of ELA instruction; reading, writing, and spelling. The literacy teacher provides high-level literacy support for members of the school community.
Major Responsibilities:
%CF; Organizing and implementing multisensory structured language instruction,
%CF; Providing direct service for whole group, small group, and individual instruction based on student needs
%CF; Administering and interpreting educational assessments
%CF; Implement a range of effective strategies and reading interventions
%CF; Co-plan with classroom teacher,
%CF; Organize and disseminate ELA resources to school staff
%CF; Collect and organize and analyze data, including measures such DIBELS for grade-level meetings
%CF; Implement lessons specific to Common Core Standards and share instructional strategies
%CF; Participate in grade-level meetings
%CF; Lead specified curriculum meetings, as well as lead discussions around literacy practices
%CF; Assist in the analysis of school-wide literacy strengths and weaknesses and formulate plans to improve student achievement in reading and teacher effectiveness
%CF; Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of all students
%CF; Morning Duty: Includes active supervision of hallways and classrooms.
%CF; Afternoon Duty: Includes active supervision of the dismissal process.
%CF; Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend
Qualifications:
%CF; Bachelor’s Degree in Reading and/or Special Education (Required)
%CF; Master’s degree in Reading and/or Special Education preferred
%CF; Prior teaching experience, especially in the classroom
%CF; Project Read, Wilson, and/or Orton-Gilingham preferred
%CF; Background and experience in the administration and interpretation of educational assessments
%CF; Knowledge and understanding of Common Core State Standards
%CF; Excellent communication skills
Required license(s)/MTELs:
%CF; DESE License: Reading All Levels and SEI Endorsement. Or
%CF; Passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), this includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s).
%CF; Two or more years of classroom teaching experience in urban setting preferred
