Facility Maintenance Worker – Youth Behavioral Health
Location: Rockdale, TX (Rockdale Youth Academy)
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $14.50/hr

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. Rockdale Youth Academy in Rockdale, Texas, is a 65-bed secure Youth Academy serving males ages 10 to 17. The program provides trauma-informed care addressing mental health, substance use, and specialized treatment needs.
Rockdale Youth Academy integrates clinical therapy, academic instruction through Inspire Academy, GED preparation, restorative justice, therapeutic recreation, life skills development, and enrichment opportunities such as art, music, and recreation.
Youth typically remain in care for six to nine months and participate in individual, family, and group therapy; victim impact awareness; substance use programming; pre-vocational preparation; and other individualized services. Small group living units and structured programming provide a supportive environment focused on stabilization, treatment, skill development, and successful community reintegration.
Position Summary – Facility Maintenance Worker Job in Rockdale, TX
We are hiring a Facility Maintenance Worker to support the daily operations of Rockdale Youth Academy. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in building and grounds maintenance who wants to make a meaningful impact in a residential treatment environment. You will help maintain a safe, efficient, and welcoming facility for youth and staff.

Facility Maintenance Worker Responsibilities
- Manage building services, including facility maintenance, groundskeeping, parking areas, and general upkeep
- Conduct regular building inspections and take proactive steps to ensure a safe, efficient, and presentable environment
- Assist with renovation, remodeling, and facility improvement projects
- Oversee facility safety and security measures related to fire, burglary, and building closures
- Monitor and maintain closed-circuit security systems and access-card operations
- Support program managers by identifying maintenance needs and coordinating projects and repairs
- Track facility fire and health inspections and ensure the timely correction of identified deficiencies
- Direct and monitor contractor activities related to facility maintenance, equipment, and grounds
Other Duties Include
- Maintain a high standard of role-model behavior for youth
- Participate in required training and professional development activities
- Report any acts, incidents, or conditions reflecting the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships
- Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents according to established guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass required background checks and pre-employment screenings
- Strong organizational, analytical, planning, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with employees, leadership, contractors, and outside agencies
- Ability to foster a positive and team-oriented work environment
Preferred Experience
- Three or more years of experience in facility maintenance or a directly related role
- Previous project management experience strongly preferred
Other Requirements
- Physical Demands: Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision. Must be able to drive for extended periods.
- Other: Must maintain an appropriate and valid state driver’s license. Must meet company automobile insurance requirements and all applicable state criminal background check and pre-employment screening requirements.
