Summary
The United States Congress created the High-Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) in 1992 to consolidate and modernize high-performance computing capabilities in the Department of War (DoW). High-performance computing (HPC) requires computer systems with appropriate combinations of processors, memory, disk input/output, networking, and operating systems configured to conduct complex, large-scale calculations.

Each DoW service or agency designates any number of Service/Agency Approval Authorities (S/AAAs) who are the keys to the HPCMP’s allocation of billions of computing hours throughout the DoW each year. These S/AAAs provide primary oversight and management of these vast HPCMP resources using a structured system for resource approvals, allocations, and tracking.

The Air Force High-Performance Computing Resource Management Lead will manage the allocation of HPCMP computing resources for the entirety of the Air force, working closely with Air Force S/AAAs to advise and assist their users.
