Position Summary:

The GSRP Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a high-quality preschool program that aligns with GSRP requirements, supports school readiness, and promotes the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children. This role leads classroom instruction, supervises associate teachers, and maintains compliance with state guidelines, including curriculum, assessment, and family engagement.



Classroom Leadership & Instruction

  • Plan and implement daily lessons using a research-based curriculum (e.g., HighScope)
  • Create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment
  • Support child-initiated and teacher-guided learning experiences
  • Manage classroom routines, transitions, and behavior using positive guidance strategies
  • Ensure consistent supervision and adherence to licensing ratios

Assessment & Documentation

  • Conduct ongoing child assessments using tools such as COR (Child Observation Record)
  • Complete developmental screenings (e.g., ASQ and ASQ-SE) within required timelines
  • Use assessment data to individualize instruction and support school readiness goals
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date child records and documentation

Family Engagement

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with families
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and share developmental progress
  • Communicate regularly through approved platforms and in-person interactions
  • Support family involvement and connect families with community resources when needed

Program Compliance

  • Follow all GSRP guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain compliance with state licensing regulations and program standards
  • Collaborate with assigned Early Childhood Specialist (ECS)
  • Ensure attendance, documentation, and reporting requirements are met

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor Associate Teacher(s)
  • Delegate classroom responsibilities effectively
  • Model professionalism, teamwork, and best practices
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuous improvement efforts

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including emergency protocols
  • Ensure proper meal/snack supervision and CACFP compliance (if applicable)

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with early childhood endorsement (or meets GSRP credential requirements)
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children

Preferred:

  • Experience with HighScope curriculum and COR assessment
  • Prior GSRP classroom experience
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills

  • Knowledge of child development and early learning standards
  • Effective communication with children, families, and staff
  • Organization and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt in a fast-paced environment

Work Schedule

  • Monday–Friday
  • Typical hours aligned with GSRP program (e.g., 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM)
  • Additional time for planning, conferences, and professional development as needed
  • Position starts for the 2026-27 school year
  • Year-round option available

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Frequent standing, bending, and sitting on the floor
  • Active engagement with young children throughout the day
