DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, effectively perform testing and inspections to determine the chemical,
physical, mechanical and functional properties of raw and/or finished materials for quality
assurance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Accurately perform incoming raw material quality checks requiring chemical and physical testing, including necessary sampling and sample preparation. Examples of testing includes: viscosity, percent solids, heat stability, density, melting or softening point, content of various components in coatings, consistency of color and dispersion, etc. Raw materials include: PVC paste, solvent and water based polyurethane coatings, PVC dry blend, Thermoplastic polyurethane granules, fabric, and any components used to produce the preceding.
- Accurately perform in process testing of semi-finished goods to determine coating weights, measurements, bond strength, etc. Accurately perform chemical and physical quality testing of finished product. Physical test include: peel strength, tesile strength, tear strength tests and measurements, electrostatic properties, and appearance, including color comparisons. Inspect finished belting rolls (slabs), record defects by code, and map defect locations on a flaw report.
- Inspection of finished belting involves the use of overhead cranes and the inspection machine.
- Assist manufacturing with fabric preparations (sew on before/after runners)
- Maintain proper records of test and inspection results including computer records.
- Regular and predictable attendance Effectively communicate and cooperate with supervisors and co-workers to achieve company goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or G.E.D; previous Quality Control experience prefferred.
- Ability to read, understand and follow quality control specifications written in English, including
- units measured in both English and Metric
- Ability to read and understand formulations in both percent and batch format
- Ability to independently and safely set up and operate necessary equipment.
- Satisfactory completion of required training programs
- Familiar with plastics or coatings formulating and testing
- Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude
- Working knowledge of basic computer applications
