Shenandoah Community Health is seeking a Therapist to join our growing Behavioral Health Services Team in Martinsburg, WV. This role offers the opportunity to provide patient-centered care in a collaborative, mission-driven community health setting with strong support from behavioral health, medical, nursing, care coordination, and other multidisciplinary team members.

Job Summary:

Shenandoah Community Health (SCH) is a Federally Qualified Health Center committed to reducing barriers to care through integrated, patient-centered services. Our Therapist provides outpatient behavioral health care, including diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, care coordination, and timely documentation.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Effectively performs initial diagnostic interviews or substance abuse evaluations and accurately completes initial diagnostic forms within the established timeframe.
  • Develops appropriate treatment plans based on the initial interview and psychiatric evaluation and completes required medical record documentation.
  • Coordinates with Providers in the Primary Behavioral Health Program regarding diagnostic impressions and needs for psychotherapy.
  • Crisis intervention or critical incident debriefing.
  • Recommendations for hospitalization, residential or outpatient treatment
  • Communication with patients and staff in an age appropriate, cultural sensitive, non-threatening, productive manner.
  • Referrals to appropriate staff or case management services to include Social Services, CPS, and Domestic Violence Programs.
  • Evaluations and triage regarding physical health and nutritional screening make referrals for further evaluation including assessment of pain and pain management, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • Individual, group or family therapy based on the inter-disciplinary treatment plan, within privileges and scope of practice at SVMS/BHS and following minimum standards of practice for diagnosis or problem identified.
  • Substance abuse evaluation and Treatment or transfer to the appropriate team member.
  • Effectively coordinates and communicates with other providers involved in the treatment of the patient; attends multi-disciplinary treatment meetings weekly; presents new treatments and effectively coordinates with other team member.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior with patients, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times according to policies and procedures; uses discretion when discussing patient matters.
  • Solid communication skills, including listening and the ability to demonstrate empathy, rapport building, and patience.

Qualifications & Education Requirements:

  • Must have a master’s degree in the field of social work, counseling, or related field and hold a current West Virginia license to practice in that specific field.
  • Must have at least two years of training and/or experience in behavioral health, addictions, inpatient and outpatient.
  • Dual diagnosis experience is required
  • Must have basic computer skills and some experience with concurrent insurance reviews
  • Familiarity with reimbursement issues is preferred.
  • Must maintain licensure and comply with continuing education requirements stipulated by applicable credentialing boards.
  • Must have and maintain current BLS certification.
  • All licensure, credentialing, and other position requirements must be met by the start date.
