Job Description
The Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and attractive floors throughout the skilled nursing facility. Duties include stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing carpets, and maintaining hard floor and carpeted surfaces in resident rooms, hallways, dining areas, and common spaces while following infection control and safety procedures required in healthcare settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Strip, wax, seal, buff, and polish hard surface floors.
Clean and maintain carpets using extraction and shampoo equipment.
Operate floor care equipment including buffers, burnishers, scrubbers, and vacuums.
Maintain cleanliness of hallways, resident rooms, nursing stations, offices, and common areas.
Follow facility infection control procedures and OSHA safety guidelines.
Properly mix and use cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer instructions.
Remove trash and transport waste safely when needed.
Respond promptly to spills and emergency cleaning situations.
Place safety signs and barriers to prevent slips and falls.
Inspect floors regularly and report maintenance or safety concerns.
Maintain equipment in good working order and report repairs needed.
Assist housekeeping staff with general cleaning duties as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with residents and families.
Follow all federal, state, and facility policies, including HIPAA requirements.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous floor care or housekeeping experience in healthcare, nursing home, hospital, or commercial setting preferred.
Experience operating industrial floor equipment preferred.
Knowledge of floor care techniques and cleaning chemicals.
Ability to safely operate floor machines and related equipment.
Understanding of infection control practices in healthcare settings.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to read safety labels and follow instructions.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate heavy cleaning equipment safely.
Ability to work around cleaning chemicals and odors.
