Function of Job

OKWU's Admissions Counselor drives the recruitment process within an assigned territory for all incoming students to traditional, residential programs. The person in this role proactively engages key constituents and partners (e.g. Churches, youth groups, pastors, high school counselors, etc.) to identify and develop opportunities to connect with prospective students.

Serving as a university liaison and advocate for the prospective student being recruited, the Admissions Counselor works to:

  • Recruit students to the university from a defined territory
  • Gather all required documentation for successful enrollment
  • Communicate all details and dates for a successful admissions process
  • Work with Student Development offices, Student Service offices, academic offices, athletics, and Creative Impact including other areas to assist the student in recruitment, enrolling and moving to campus.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the ED of Admissions.

  • Identify new and existing markets to recruit first-time incoming students to the university
  • Responsible for traveling throughout an assigned territory to call on prospective leads; both individuals and organizations (e.g. churches, college fairs, schools)
  • Responsible for presenting accurate and engaging information to prospective students and their parents during campus visits, meetings while traveling, and other activities related to recruiting
  • Responsible for planning, advertising, and hosting campus events related to recruiting and retaining students
  • Cultivate special university events for youth groups and high schools
  • Responsible for advising the prospective student on what scholarships that are applicable to them and preparing them with questions to ask Financial Aid
  • Responsible for a high-level of customer service engagement; assisting prospective students through the admissions process via telephone, email, text and face-to-face communication
  • Responsible for managing the prospective student’s admissions file, from inquiry to matriculation
  • When applicable, counselor is responsible for informing the student (and coach), collecting documentation for the academic appeals committee, and providing the appeal file to committee
  • Responsible for managing the prospective international student’s admissions file, including issuing their I-20 and renewing their registration each term (only applicable to the DSO)
  • Oversee student worker’s work assignments, when applicable
  • Performs other duties as assigned
