Position Title: Medical Assistant
Department: Clinical Operations
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor / Physician / Office Manager
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and clinical staff while delivering high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for assisting with patient intake, clinical procedures, documentation, and coordination of care. The Medical Assistant must be fluent in both English and Spanish to effectively communicate with patients in a diverse healthcare environment.
The Medical Assistant must perform duties in accordance with Florida state regulations, OSHA standards, HIPAA requirements, and clinical best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support
Prepare examination rooms and ensure clinical areas are properly stocked and sanitized.
Escort patients to exam rooms and obtain vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, weight, and height.
Document chief complaints, medical history, medications, and allergies accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Assist physicians during examinations and minor procedures.
Perform phlebotomy, injections, EKGs, specimen collection, and other clinical procedures within the scope allowed under Florida law.
Process laboratory specimens and ensure proper labeling and documentation.
Patient Care
Communicate effectively with patients in both English and Spanish.
Provide patient education and follow-up instructions as directed by providers.
Coordinate referrals, imaging, and follow-up appointments.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain accurate patient documentation within the EMR.
Ensure exam rooms meet OSHA infection control and safety standards.
Monitor clinical supply inventory and notify management when restocking is needed.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or GED required
Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred
Certifications (Preferred)
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Experience
1–2 years of experience in a clinical healthcare setting preferred
Required Skills
Fluent in English and Spanish (verbal and written)
Knowledge of medical terminology
Experience with EMR systems
Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
Strong patient service and communication skills
