About This Role
The Teacher I for our infant/toddler classroom will provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years. This role focuses on promoting healthy developmental milestones, managing daily routines, and partnering with parents to ensure each child's physical, emotional, and social needs are continuously met.
As an Infant/Toddler Teacher I, you will facilitate play-based learning and execute daily caregiving routines designed to help our youngest learners thrive. You will work closely with co-teachers and center administration to create an inclusive, supportive space where curiosity flourishes.
What You'll Do
- Supervise children actively and directly at all times to ensure compliance with state licensing ratios and center safety rules.
- Perform routine health and safety checks, including sanitizing toys, surfaces, and changing areas.
- Monitor sleeping infants at designated intervals to ensure safe sleep practices.
- Administer basic first aid, dispense medication when authorized, and report illnesses or accidents to center administration and parents.
- Assist with personal care, including diaper changes, potty training, and maintaining excellent hygiene.
- Prepare, serve, and assist with bottles, infant feeding, and toddler meals, teaching self-help skills.
- Develop and execute daily schedules that balance active physical play, sensory exploration, and scheduled rest times.
- Implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities that promote sensory, motor, cognitive, and language development.
- Lead group and individual play, modeling positive behavior, sharing, and early conflict resolution.
- Observe, assess, and document developmental milestones to help tailor future lessons.
- Provide daily reports to parents detailing eating, sleeping, and diapering habits, as well as daily activities.
- Build trusting relationships with families and keep them informed of their child’s growth and progress.
- Assist Lead Teachers and cooperate with support staff to maintain a cohesive, smooth-functioning classroom.
Requirements
- Minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Previous experience working in a licensed infant/toddler group care setting
- Current Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to lift up to 40-50 lbs and ability to regularly bend, crawl, and sit on the floor to engage with children at their level
- Clear required Background Checks: 1) Fingerprint-Based Background Check through the FBI and Virginia State Police databases 2) Child Protective Services (CPS)
- Tuberculosis (TB) Screening: A negative TB test or risk assessment
- Physical and Mental Fitness Exam
