Public Works Maintenance Team Member

Title:Public Works Maintenance Team Member

Salary:$15.00- $30.00hourlydependent on qualifications, paid bi-weekly,plus a benefit package which includes health, dental, vision,lifeand disability coverage plus employee deferred compensation plan, vacation, and holidays. The City of Valley is an equal opportunity employer.

Essential Functions

  • Repair concrete pads or small asphalt irregularities on streets within theCitylimits.
  • Mowand trimvarious City properties
  • Apply restrictedusepesticides and fertilizer as scheduled or needed.
  • Clear City streets and roads of ice and snow.
  • Maintain irrigation systems on several City properties.
  • Maintain trees on City properties.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment as needed.
  • Participate in projectsregardingconstructing ormaintainingCity structures.

Knowledge,Skillsand Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Working knowledge of concrete pad replacement.(Streets and sidewalks)
  • Working knowledge of and ability tooperatepower tools.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to perform mechanical maintenance and repairs.

Ability to:

  • To work outdoors and maintenance/garage working conditions.
  • Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and various temperatures and climaticconditions, andmust be able to work under adverse weather conditions as may berequired.
  • Use chemicals and cleaning solvents tomaintainand repair equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, contractors, and thegeneral publicboth orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use email and other basic computer technology.
  • Ability toworka regular schedule, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am 3:30 pm and On-Call every 5thweek and snow events as needed.
  • Must be able tooperateor be willing to learn tooperateequipment including but not limited to mowers, skid loaders, mini excavators, road graders, lifts,tractorsand trucks.

Training, Education and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited high school.

Experience:

  • Three (3)years ofworkexperiencein a related field. Public Works experience is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations Required

  • Mustpossessand maintaina validClass B CDLdrivers license andmaintaininsurability asdeterminedby the Citys insurance carrier.(If no current Class B CDL license, one must be obtained within the first six (6) months ofemployment.)
  • Mustpossessor obtain the following pesticide applicator licenses:
  • 04 Ornamental and turf pest control
  • 07 right of way pest control
  • 09 public health pest control

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general administrative direction from thePublic Works Superintendent and/or Public Works Foreman.
