Position Title: Lifeguard Start Date: Immediate Reports To: Lifeguard Coordinator

Position Overview

The Lifeguard plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons at our aquatic facility. This position is responsible for preventing accidents, responding to emergencies, and supporting the overall operations of the pool in a professional and customer-focused manner.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patron Safety & Engagement

  • Monitor aquatic areas and enforce pool rules consistently and respectfully
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies or incidents
  • Provide assistance to patrons by answering questions and giving directions
  • Assist with swim tests, wristband distribution, and crowd control during peak times or events

2. Facility & Equipment Care

  • Test and record water chemistry (chlorine, pH, etc.)
  • Inspect and maintain safety equipment (rescue tubes, AED, backboards, first aid kits)
  • Set up and remove lane lines, starting blocks, and play features as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness of pool deck, guard stands, restrooms, and locker rooms
  • Keep walkways clear, store equipment properly, and pick up trash

3. Administrative & Program Support

  • Complete incident reports, daily logs, and maintenance checklists
  • Assist with pool opening and closing procedures
  • Support swim lessons and aquatic programs as an aide or secondary instructor
  • Manage lost and found items and assist at the front desk or phone in emergencies (if trained)

4. Training & Teamwork

  • Participate in required in-service trainings and skill refreshers
  • Practice emergency action plans regularly
  • Assist supervisors or head guards with safety drills and role-play scenarios

Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 16
  • Current certifications in:
    • American Red Cross Lifeguarding (or equivalent)
    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
    • AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen
  • Ability to maintain physical fitness, alertness, and readiness to perform rescues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism when interacting with diverse patrons
  • Emotional resilience and sound judgment in high-pressure situations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in lifeguard skills consistent with facility standards
