About This Role

St. John Neumann Academy in Blacksburg, Virginia, a fully accredited faith-based school, seeks a Middle School History and Civics Teacher. This 20 hour/week, part-time position requires a dedicated educator to engage our 6th - 8th Grade students in thoughtful exploration of history, government, and citizenship within a Christ-centered environment.



What You'll Do

  • Inspire students to become informed and responsible citizens by delivering engaging, standards-aligned lessons in U.S. History, World Geography, and Civics/Economics.
  • Encourage critical thinking and respectful dialogue through various instructional strategies and diverse learning experiences.
  • Deepen understanding by integrating primary sources, current events, and discussion-based learning.
  • Support students' development of critical thinking and writing skills through tailored assessments and formative evaluations.
  • Uphold the school's mission and values while fostering a collaborative and faith-filled school community.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with fellow middle school teachers on interdisciplinary projects and participate in school events and meetings.
  • Model strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills to ensure a productive learning environment.
  • Adapt technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and stay up-to-date with educational trends.


Requirements

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and contribute to a faith-filled school community.
  • Passion for working with middle school students.
  • Teaching experience preferred, especially at the middle school level.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Valid Virginia Professional Teaching License with an endorsement in Middle School History/Civics Education (or in progress). Candidates with a bachelor's degree in History or a closely related field who are willing to work with the school to obtain a Virginia provisional teaching license are also encouraged to apply.
