Position Summary: The Harvesting Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Harvesting Manager in overseeing the daily harvesting operations and employee management and filling in during the Harvesting Manager’s absence. making sure that all mushrooms are harvested according to company standards, as outlined in harvesters’ job description. He or she is responsible for the safety and food safety compliance of all employees working in the harvesting area, to fill all orders from the Sales Department with the best quality, and to ensure proper containers are available for harvesting and that adequate staff is available to harvest, supervise and to haul the mushrooms in a timely and organized manner from the farm back to the receiving dock.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma preferred but not required.
- Must have harvesting experience and supervisory experience.
- Must be organized.
- Must be able to use a computer including Word, Excel, Email, and other in-house computer programs.
- Must have excellent communications skills.
- Must have leadership qualities and the ability to solve problems.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Must have Driver’s License and qualify to drive under company driver’s policy.
Role and Responsibilities:
• Ensure that the daily orders are filled with the proper quality and size. • Ensure enough help is on farm and request help from other farms if needed.• Maintain safe and organized working areas for all. • Complete accident reports, termination reports, and administer discipline as necessary and in accordance with company policies during the harvesting manager absence. • Ensure that monthly safety meetings are complete • Ensure that the payroll is accurately completed and turned in weekly during the Harvesting manager’s absence. • Ensure that all employees are treated equally and fairly.• Harvesting Assistant Manager will be responsible as well for delegating responsibility to achieve goals through the supervisors and harvesters.• He / She needs to start 15 minutes before 5:00 am.• Ensure that all harvesters are properly trained in Harvesting, Safety, Food Safety, and any other programs from upper management. • Work with growers, Sales Department, administration, and harvesters to formulate clear cut, well understood rules for harvesting mushrooms.• Review HCIP and in weight reports and present them to supervisors along with suggestions for improvement.• Comply with all general practices and policies which apply to the harvesting area.• Communicate any significant production drops or increases to Sales, Production, and Growing staff during the harvesting Manager absence.• Ensure proper quality and basket weights are being achieved• Assist Reconciling payroll into the system and harvester container counts.• Communicate anticipated production to Sales/Production Departments.• Communicate counts to the Sales Department on large and special orders along with any other numbers requested by Sales.• Ensure filling each order with the proper quantity and quality, if not request help from other farms. If help is not available communicate to the Sales dept and Farm Manager, the shortage information.
