Luhr Crosby, LLC is seeking experienced and inexperienced Deckhands!The Deckhand is responsible for building and breaking tow as directed by the Master or his relief while maintaining a clean and orderly vessel and barge. Responsibilities include:Making up the towDropping, spotting, and switching barges at docksAssisting the vessel and tow in making locks and standing lookout as neededPerforming the various tasks necessary to conduct the above, such as making a coupling, operating winches and ratchets, and line handling, including splicing and throwing linesMake up bad order barge reports that are picked up in towGeneral maintenance of boats and barges, including painting. Other equipment maintenance as neededCleaning or scouring the boat including personal quarters, wheelhouse, galley, head and companionways or other cleaning choresOther duties as directed by the Master or his relief Required Qualifications:2+ years prior deckhand experienceAbility to work away from home for extended periods (28-day hitch)Ability to work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to respond quickly in unexpected circumstancesDemonstration of critical thinking and decision-making skillsEffective communication within all levels of the organizationAbility to demonstrate teamwork and acceptance of diversityMust be able to read and write the English language to comply with USCG regulatory requirementsMust obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)Must have and maintain a valid driver's licensePass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, and physical) Physical Demands:Required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers to grip, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hearPerform frequent heavy lifting including lifting, pushing, pulling and carryingAbility to work in confined spaces and near or on large bodies of waterAbility to climb a ladder and able to board and ride in a skiffWork is performed in an uncontrolled environment. Exposure to harsh conditions such as noise, varying weather conditions and temperatures for short periods of time is possible.
