Job Specific Competencies:
- Directly accountable for preventing hospital acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff
- Under direct supervision, assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery and performs assigned selected duties.
- Prepares for surgery in an acceptable time frame.
- Prioritizes workload and prepares for the specific operative procedure utilizing appropriate Preference Care/Case Cart Requisition.
- Demonstrates acceptable standards of aseptic technique when scrubbed and a working knowledge of the surgical procedure, instrumentation, supplies and equipment needed.
- Responds appropriately to any unanticipated or emergency situation that may arise intra-operatively & assists with CPR of patient during cardiac arrest.
- Utilize equipment properly, according to manufacturer's recommendation and adhering to OR protocols. Ensures OR is stocked and ready for each case.
- Assures equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by the next staff member and/or patient.
- Follows the hospital's policy and procedures on discarding contaminated and hazardous materials.
- Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or Equivalency Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technology Program approved by: CAAHEP - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or ABHES - Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.
CREDENTIALS + QUALIFICATIONS:
BLS by approved by AHA - American Heart Association
Surgical Technician Certification (CST) Authorized by: NBSTSA - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting *Must be certified within 90 days of employment
Compensation: This will be based on years of experience and the Union contract.
