Our flagship Ready, Willing & Able (RWA) program provides paid transitional work experience, transitional housing, advanced occupational training, and comprehensive supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The Doe Fund is also one of New York City’s largest nonprofit developers of permanent, affordable, and supportive housing, with more than 1,900 units in operation or pre-development. The organization has an annual operating budget of $80 million and a full-time staff of nearly 500, a significant portion of whom are graduates of our programs.

The Case Manager/Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for providing supportive case management services to the HASA funded residents. The successful candidate will have strong clinical and communication skills along with an understanding of working with the HIV/AIDS population, including seniors.

The Ideal Candidate:
  • You are a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or have a License in Clinical Social Work (LCSW).
  • You have at least one year of experience working with people who are homeless, living with HIV/AIDS, have substance abuse histories or suffer from mental illness.
  • You have at least 3 years of experience in substance abuse counseling
  • You are knowledgeable of the benefits in the New York City Metro area, HIV/AIDS, psychiatric diagnoses, substance abuse, and mental health issues
  • You possess solid computer skills – internet, Microsoft Office, and charting database
  • You possess strong organizational, writing, and communication skills
It's a Bonus if You Have:
  • A degree in Social Work or a relevant field and a CASAC.
  • The ability to speak Spanish and English.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a caseload and provide regular case management services to these individuals
  • Maintain resident records in compliance with agency and funding standards
  • Conduct and review assessments
  • Develop and implement individual Service Plans and assist residents with achieving their goals geared towards self sufficiency
  • Provide counseling and crisis intervention as necessary
  • Assist residents in securing and maintaining benefits
  • Maintain a liaison with community services including hospitals, substance abuse treatment programs, and mental health programs
  • Facilitate groups and activities that promote health and independent living skills development
  • Monitor and assist residents with rent payments
  • Compile resources on substance abuse
  • Educate residents and staff about approaches to managing addiction
  • Oversee recovery readiness, relapse prevention, and recovery oriented services
  • Organize sober recreational activities
  • Attend ongoing trainings to enhance the services provided to the residents
  • Assist with completion of HASA’s weekly and monthly reports as well as any other relevant reports
  • Other duties as assigned
