We are looking for a detail-oriented Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations and help maintain accurate financial reporting for a commercial bank in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. This position works closely with senior leadership, including the Chief Financial Officer, and plays an important role in managing reconciliations, reporting cycles, and compliance-related financial activities. The ideal candidate brings sound accounting judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities:

• Manage daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting activities to ensure records are complete, timely, and accurate.

• Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close process, including review of key general ledger accounts.

• Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and other financial records to identify and resolve discrepancies.

• Produce monthly financial statements and internal reports for leadership, committees, and the board.

• Oversee accounts payable processing and perform related reconciliations to maintain accurate liability reporting.

• Track fixed assets, monitor investment-related balances, and maintain supporting documentation for reporting purposes.

• Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities by compiling financial data and assisting with analysis.

• Support preparation of quarterly regulatory filings and assist with external audits, tax audits, and compliance reviews.

• Help strengthen accounting procedures, controls, and policies to promote consistency and adherence to applicable standards.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• At least 2 years of accounting experience; prior exposure to banking or financial services is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including strong spreadsheet skills for financial analysis and reporting.
• Working knowledge of accounting standards, bookkeeping practices, and applicable financial regulations.
• Strong attention to accuracy in preparing and reviewing financial information.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across the organization.
