Role Summary


The Lead Carpenter owns the carpentry scope on Design/Build projects, leading layout, quality, and production for outdoor living features including porches, pool houses, pergolas, pavilions, decks, fences, and custom structures and site-built details. This role is hands-on and works closely with the foreman and crew to deliver clean, safe, on-schedule builds.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Lead carpentry production from layout through finish, ensuring work is plumb, level, square, and built to plan and code where applicable.
  • Read and interpret plans and specs, confirm dimensions/elevations, and flag conflicts early (site conditions, missing details, material constraints).
  • Build and install exterior structures and components such as porches, pool houses, pergolas, pavilions, decks, fences, privacy screens, planters, steps, gates, and custom features.
  • Frame, sheath, trim, and finish to a high standard (fit, fastening, appearance, weather durability).
  • Install hardware and accessories (post bases, hangers, connectors, brackets, gate hardware, etc.).
  • Coordinate sequencing with hardscape/landscape tasks so carpentry ties in cleanly (bases, footings, drainage, grading, lighting conduits, etc.).
  • Coordinate carpentry tie-ins with related scopes common in porch and pool house work (footings/foundations, drainage and grading, electrical/lighting rough-ins, waterproofing/flashing details, and finish protection).
  • Plan the day’s carpentry work, stage materials/tools, and keep the crew productive.
  • Train and coach carpenters and helpers on safe tool use, quality standards, and efficient methods.
  • Maintain jobsite organization, protect finished work, and uphold safety standards and PPE requirements.
  • Communicate needs to leadership early: material lists, hardware, cut lists, tool issues, and schedule impacts.
  • Support change conditions with leadership approval (field adjustments, customer requests, scope clarifications).

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years carpentry experience, with at least 1 year in a lead role (or proven leadership ability).
  • Strong exterior carpentry skills and jobsite math, confident with layout and finish detail.
  • Proficient with tools used in field carpentry (saws, nailers, drills, levels/lasers, routers, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions, including lifting, kneeling, ladder work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outdoor living experience including porches and pool houses (plus pavilions/pergolas/decks/fences) and exterior trim.
  • Experience working within landscape/hardscape construction.
  • Ability to produce material takeoffs/cut lists and support ordering.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Outdoor construction environment, jobsite travel required.
  • Occasional overtime based on season and production schedules (overtime must be approved).

  • By Day 30: Understands Weavers standards, leads safe setup and daily carpentry execution, consistent quality.
  • By Day 60: Independently runs carpentry scope on assigned projects, effective staging and sequencing, minimal rework.
  • By Day 90: Consistently delivers results (quality, pace, professionalism), develops others, and helps projects stay on schedule.
