Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Education: A Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited program is standard for entering the field as of 2026.
  • Licensure: Valid state physical therapy license and current CPR/BLS certification are mandatory.
  • Experience: Many employers prefer at least one year of professional clinical experience, often specifically in acute care or home health settings.
  • Mobility: A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance are typically required due to the travel nature of the job.
  • Essential Skills
  • Clinical Reasoning: Ability to adapt clinical protocols to a home environment with limited specialized equipment.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to motivate patients and communicate clearly with diverse healthcare teams.
  • Physical Stamina: The role requires frequent standing, kneeling, and the physical strength to safely assist patients with mobility and transfers.
  • Self-Management: High degree of independence and strong time-management skills to manage a mobile caseload and documentation deadlines.
Essential Skills & Environment:
  • Autonomy & Travel: Work independently, traveling between homes, often requiring schedule flexibility.
  • Collaboration: Strong communication skills to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Problem-Solving: Differentiate urgent from non-urgent situations and manage varied patient needs.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with required technology for documentation and communication.
  • Technology Proficiency: Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems (e.g., Kinnser, HomeCare HomeBase) is standard for mobile documentation.
