Skilled Laborer

Westmoreland County Housing Authority (WCHA) is looking to hire someone for a full-time skilled laborer position.

The position entails performing the skills listed below, in a reasonable length of time, but not limited to the following:

Must have a valid PA driver’s license.

Must be able to follow instructions from his/her supervisor.

All the previous skills required at the Maintenance Custodial level.

Must have the ability to learn more advanced skills as pertaining to the Maintenance Mechanic level.

Must have general carpentry skills, such as:

Repair or replace trim work and rubber base.

Basic floor repair working with wood and VCT floor tile.

Change door locks.

Install blind and curtain rods.

Repair screens and broken window sashes.

Repair or replace storm doors, etc.

Make repairs to damaged walls.

Must have general plumbing skills, such as:

Repair or replace faucets and minor plumbing leaks such as flexible water lines, drain traps, etc.

Replace sinks and water closets.

Unclog sanitation drains.

Check for gas leaks.

Must have general electrical skills, such as:

Replace electrical outlets and switches.

Replace light fixture ballasts.

Replace and service smoke detectors and CO2 detectors.

Must be able to use electrical testing meters, such as, VOM multimeter, polarity testers, etc.

Must have general HVAC skills, such as:

Replace thermostats.

General understanding on how a forced air heating system cycles.

Repair/replace small fan units, such as bathroom and kitchen fans.

Must be able to fill out all associated paperwork affiliated with the job, such as, daily logs, work orders, etc.

Must have the ability to set-up and work off of ladders.

Must be able to operate equipment such as, lawn care and snow removal equipment, vacuum cleaners, floor buffer, drain maintenance equipment, etc.

Must be able to operate small utility trucks and similar types of vehicles.

Performs any and all other duties as assigned by the Area Supervisor, Facilities Director, Physical Operations Director or Executive Director.
