We are actively looking for a board-certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon with extensive experience to become a part of our cardiovascular practice located in Rapid City, South Dakota. Our organization boasts a team of certified physicians, proficient support personnel, and top-notch facilities, providing a comprehensive range of cardiovascular services.

This role will primarily involve a combination of cardiac and thoracic procedures, along with some vascular care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong teamwork abilities, a solid work ethic, exceptional clinical skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care.

Our cardiovascular institute is at the forefront of various advanced procedures, including:

• Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), including beating heart surgery
• Complex mitral valve repairs and replacements
• Aortic valve replacements (AVR) and transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR)
• Complex thoracic aortic surgeries, including aortic root surgery
• Arrhythmia surgeries, including hybrid A-fib maze procedures (convergent)
• Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
• Open and Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) lobectomies
• Mediastinal surgeries
• Carotid endarterectomies
• Lower and upper extremity bypass surgeries
• Endovascular Aneurysm Repairs (EVAR) and open abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs

Our cardiovascular team is the largest in the region, comprising:

• 6 Non-Interventional Cardiologists
• 4 Interventional Cardiologists
• 2 Electrophysiologists
• 1 Heart Failure Cardiologist
• 2 Cardiothoracic Surgeons
• 1 Vascular Surgeon
• A dedicated team of over 25 advanced practitioners to support both inpatient and outpatient care, including nocturnal inpatient assistance

  • 3,200+ Cath Lab Procedures:
    • Including 220 Structural Heart Interventions
  • 11,000+ EP Lab Procedures:
    • 600+ Ablation procedures
  • 12 operating rooms (2 dedicated to cardiac surgery), 2 Hybrid rooms, and 2 da Vinci Robotic Systems
  • Comprehensive Cardiovascular Quality Assessment/Quality Improvement Program with active registry participation, including STS Adult Cardiac Surgery and various NCDR registries
  • Shared call responsibilities among Cardiothoracic Surgeon partners
  • Ongoing investment in the cardiovascular service line as a strategic priority
  • Comprehensive Electrophysiology program addressing all aspects of electrical heart disease
  • Dedicated Structural Heart program offering transcatheter aortic valve replacement, left atrial appendage occlusion, PFO/ASD closure, MitraClip, and transcatheter mitral valve implantation
  • Rapid City Hospital Cardiac Cath Lab performing diagnostic and interventional procedures, including complex coronary interventions and endovascular repairs
  • Robust cardiovascular clinical research program currently enrolling in over 20 clinical trials
  • Established cardiac rehabilitation program, anticoagulation clinic, and heart failure programs, with plans for an advanced heart failure clinic
