Job Description
Position Overview
Our organization is looking for a Clinician Researcher specializing in General Oncology to become a part of our faculty within the Section of Hematology & Medical Oncology. This full-time role will focus on enhancing clinical services while maintaining high standards in research and education.
The ideal candidate will be an ABIM-certified (or eligible) medical oncologist with a solid background in medical oncology.
Clinical Responsibilities: Deliver outstanding outpatient care for a range of oncological conditions, committing to at least 4.5 days of clinic each week. Engage in consultative services and provide care to patients, including those with fellows-in-training. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure timely compliance with billing, documentation, credentialing, and other administrative tasks.
Education & Mentorship: Guide and mentor fellows, residents, and medical/graduate students in clinical trials and medical oncology. Oversee fellows-in-training in both outpatient and inpatient environments. Conduct educational sessions, including periodic Medical Grand Rounds presentations for faculty, fellows, residents, and students. Take part in quarterly evaluations of fellows-in-training.
Research & Clinical Trials: Enroll patients in investigator-initiated and collaborative clinical trials supported by our Clinical Trials Office. Collaborate with fellows on research projects or pursue independent research initiatives.
Institutional Collaboration: Collaborate with leadership at the Cancer Center and engage with the wider university community.
These duties may evolve over time and will be assigned by the Section Chief of Hematology & Medical Oncology.
Clinical Work Locations:
Primary Site: East Jefferson General Hospital - LCMC Health: This academic and community health center features a 420-bed facility located in Metairie, LA, offering both inpatient and outpatient services.
Additional locations in the New Orleans area where credentialing may be required include University Medical Center of New Orleans - LCMC Health, Touro - LCMC Health, Lakeside Hospital - LCMC Health, and Lakeview Hospital - LCMC Health.
Qualifications
Essential:
MD, DO, or an equivalent foreign degree
Board Eligible/Board Certified in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology
Eligibility for a Louisiana medical license
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Medical Oncology
Preferred:
Experience in designing and executing clinical trials.
Proven track record in establishing a clinic and referral network.
