Job Description
Our organization is in search of a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible Neurologist who has completed a two-year surgical epilepsy fellowship. This individual will take on the role of Medical Director for our Intracranial Epilepsy Monitoring Program within the Neurology Department. The Medical Director will oversee patient care and contribute to the advancement of our intracranial monitoring initiatives. This position is located at our Scarborough Campus, which features an on-site MRI and neurodiagnostic lab, along with the nearby Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at a major medical center in Portland, Maine. Research opportunities are available through our research institute, and dedicated time for academic pursuits can be arranged through a specific academic pathway.
Our Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is recognized as a level III Epilepsy Center, serving over 4,000 patients annually. The program is staffed by five epileptologists (three specializing in adult care and two in pediatrics), two dedicated nurse practitioners, five nursing staff members, and a nurse navigator. We collaborate closely with a fellowship-trained epilepsy/functional neurosurgeon, neuroradiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, and a dedicated neuropsychologist and psychometrician as we work towards establishing a level IV comprehensive epilepsy program. Our facilities include five EMU beds (three for adults and two for pediatrics), as well as fully accredited inpatient and outpatient neurodiagnostic labs and a 3T MRI.
Key Opportunity Highlights:
- Become part of a well-established Neurology Department with over 35 sub-specialty trained neurologists, including both Adult and Pediatric specialists, Neurohospitalists, and Advanced Practice Professionals, all supported by a strong clinical and administrative team, which includes an onsite pharmacist, behavioral health counselor, social worker, neuropsychologist, and psychometrician.
- A dedicated team of Neurohospitalists provides hospital admission services, stroke care, telestroke support, and after-hours phone call coverage.
- Inpatient responsibilities are limited to a fair share of daytime coverage on the neurology consult service for four to five weeks each year.
- Engage in teaching opportunities with MaineHealth Neurology residents in our onsite residency program (four residents per year), as well as residents and fellows from other departments and rotating medical students from Tufts University.
- Academic appointments are available through our affiliation with Tufts Medical School, along with opportunities for professional advancement.
