Overview:Your role will encompass conducting consultations, formulating treatment strategies, and delivering follow-up care for both inpatient and outpatient veterans. You will also engage in multidisciplinary team meetings, quality enhancement projects, and educational initiatives.
In this position, you will provide daily care to veteran patients in various settings, assessing, consulting, and treating individuals with hematologic and oncologic conditions. As a specialist in chemotherapy and other related procedures, including bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, you will collaborate closely with fellow providers, nurses, pharmacists, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive care for our veterans. Active involvement in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings at the VA and other gatherings at UCSF Fresno is crucial. Additionally, you will have opportunities to participate in research and clinical trials and may become a faculty member in Hematology and Oncology at UCSF Fresno. Your responsibilities will also include training residents, fellows, and medical students who rotate through the VA, as well as signing chemotherapy regimens, obtaining patient consents, triaging consults, and adhering to VA policies regarding conduct, attendance, and scheduling.
Key Responsibilities:Veteran-Centered Care:- Provide comprehensive hematology and oncology services focusing on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education, and management of cancer and blood disorders.
- Encourage shared decision-making with veterans and their families to achieve the best health outcomes.
- Conduct consultations and create personalized treatment plans for patients with hematologic and oncologic issues.
- Oversee preoperative and postoperative care for cancer patients.
- Manage outpatient hematology/oncology clinics and provide inpatient consultations as required.
- Engage in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery.
- Utilize various quality measurement tools to assess and improve clinical performance and patient outcomes.
- Act as a mentor and role model for other healthcare professionals within the hematology/oncology team.
- Participate in educational activities, offering guidance and support to residents, students, and other trainees.
- Coordinate care for veterans, integrating specialty care, mental health services, and other ancillary services to ensure comprehensive healthcare delivery.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop tailored treatment plans for veterans.
