Urgent Care Physician

Organization: Our organization, part of the Veterans Affairs system
Location: Martinez VA Medical Center, 150 Muir Rd, Martinez, CA 94553 (Community-Based Outpatient Clinic)

Position Overview
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday; approximately 36 clinical hours per week, with flexibility within the urgent care framework.

  • Work Environment: On-site urgent care at the Martinez VA CBOC, focusing on acute, non-life-threatening conditions (after-hours emergencies are directed to 911).

Primary Duties
  • Evaluate and treat Veterans with minor injuries, acute illnesses, and non-critical health issues.

  • Request diagnostic tests (laboratory work, imaging), conduct point-of-care procedures, manage prescriptions, and initiate referrals as necessary.

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care and follow-up for patients.

  • Follow VA clinical protocols, maintain documentation standards, and adhere to veteran-centered care practices.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.

  • Licensure: Must possess a full, unrestricted medical license in the U.S.

  • Training: Completion of a residency in Emergency, Family, or Internal Medicine, with substantial experience in urgent care or emergency settings preferred.

  • Board Certification: Must be board-certified or board-eligible.

  • Citizenship: U.S. citizenship is required (exceptions may apply if qualified candidates are unavailable).

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: Annual compensation ranging from $260,000 to $325,000.

  • Leave: 50-55 days per year, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and CME days.

  • Retirement Benefits: Federal pension that vests in 5 years, along with a Thrift Savings Plan featuring matching contributions.

  • Insurance Coverage: Comprehensive federal health, dental, vision, term life, and long-term care insurance.

  • CME Stipend: $1,000 annually for full-time, board-certified providers.

  • Malpractice Coverage: Liability and tail coverage provided by the VA.

  • Educational Debt Repayment: Up to $200,000 available for educational debt repayment over 1-5 years (eligibility must be established within 4 months of hire).

  • Incentives: Recruitment and sign-on bonuses, as well as relocation assistance, are available.
