Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group
Victorville, CA, US Full Time

Job Description

Job Description

Overview: Our organization is on the lookout for a per diem child psychiatrist who is either board-certified or board-eligible to enhance our expanding behavioral health team. This unique and fulfilling position is situated within our Crisis Stabilization/EMPATH Unit, a 12-bed, dynamic program dedicated to delivering immediate and compassionate psychiatric care to individuals in crisis.

An EmPATH unit is a specially designed, tranquil area within a hospital that focuses on providing swift mental health evaluations and treatments for those facing a crisis. Unlike a conventional emergency room, it emphasizes a calming atmosphere that alleviates anxiety and fosters healing.

This role presents a significant opportunity to assist a diverse and underserved community in the Inland Empire region, while collaborating in a multidisciplinary setting at one of Southern California’s premier academic medical centers and a Level I Trauma Center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct psychiatric care to patients within the Crisis Stabilization/EMPATH Unit.
  • Engage in collaborative care alongside Emergency Department teams, medical and surgical specialists, and social services.
  • Participate in consultation-liaison psychiatry as required, including floor consultations.
  • Supervise and mentor psychiatry residents, medical students, and other trainees.
  • Work with a team of nurse practitioners, social workers, case managers, and peer support specialists to ensure smooth transitions of care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, innovation, and the establishment of best practices in emergency psychiatric care.
  • There is also the potential for a Medical Directorship role, depending on experience and interest. This leadership position would involve overseeing clinical operations of the unit, supporting quality improvement efforts, and influencing the development of emergent psychiatric services.
What We Offer:
  • Academic appointment and teaching opportunities through our affiliated medical school.
  • A supportive, mission-driven environment with a strong focus on holistic care.
  • Access to a vast network of specialists across various disciplines at a leading faith-based academic medical center.
  • Opportunities for leadership development and program expansion.
  • Competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package.
About the Area:

Loma Linda is recognized as the only Blue Zone in the United States, offering a family-friendly atmosphere with a strong community spirit and a commitment to health and wellness. Located in Southern California between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, in the Inland Empire region, it is nestled at the base of the San Bernardino mountains, providing easy access to beaches, skiing, hiking, and a variety of outdoor activities. This growing area boasts a low cost of living and excellent educational systems, both public and private. Faculty members may also qualify for federal student loan forgiveness programs.

Compensation & Benefits:

The listed compensation range is for starting base pay only and will be adjusted based on years of experience and/or faculty rank: $190 - $195 per hour. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity and is subject to the specific compensation plans of the department. Further details regarding compensation will be discussed during the recruitment process.

Our benefits package includes:

  • Generous retirement contributions.
  • Paid malpractice insurance.

Please note that residency in California is required upon the start date, and this opportunity is not eligible for a Conrad 30 waiver.
