Job Description
Our organization is in search of a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible Neurologist who has completed a two-year surgical epilepsy fellowship. This role will serve as the Medical Director of the Intracranial Epilepsy Monitoring Program within our Neurology Department. The Medical Director will oversee patient care and contribute to the advancement of our intracranial monitoring initiatives. This position is located at our Scarborough Campus, which features an on-site MRI and neurodiagnostic lab, along with the nearby Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at a major medical center in Portland, Maine. Research opportunities are available through our research institute, and dedicated time for academic pursuits can be arranged through a structured academic pathway.
Our Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is recognized as a level III Epilepsy Center, serving over 4,000 patients annually. The program is currently staffed by five epileptologists (three specializing in adult care and two in pediatrics), along with two dedicated nurse practitioners, five nursing staff members, and a nurse navigator. We collaborate closely with a fellowship-trained epilepsy and functional neurosurgeon, neuroradiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, and a dedicated neuropsychologist and psychometrician as we work towards establishing a level IV comprehensive epilepsy program. Our facilities include five EMU beds (three for adults and two for pediatrics), fully accredited inpatient and outpatient neurodiagnostic labs, and a 3T MRI.
Opportunity Highlights:- Become part of a well-established Neurology Department with over 35 sub-specialty trained Adult and Pediatric neurologists, Neurohospitalists, and Advanced Practice Professionals, all supported by a strong clinical and administrative team, including an onsite pharmacist, behavioral health counselor, social worker, neuropsychologist, and psychometrician.
- A dedicated team of Neurohospitalists provides hospital admission services, stroke and telestroke care, as well as after-hours phone call coverage.
- Inpatient responsibilities are limited to a fair share of daytime coverage on the neurology consult service, approximately four to five weeks each year.
- Engage in teaching opportunities for MaineHealth Neurology residents (four residents per year), as well as residents and fellows from other departments, and Tufts MS IV and other rotating medical students.
- Academic appointments are available through our affiliation with Tufts Medical School, with pathways for academic advancement.
