Position Title: Seasonal Boat Captain / Pedal Boat Attendant
Pay Rate: $15.16 per hour
Employment Type: Seasonal (May–September)


Position Overview

The Seasonal Boat Captain / Pedal Boat Attendant is responsible for safely operating excursion boats on the Riverwalk while providing engaging and informative historical tours for guests. This position also assists visitors by answering questions, providing information about the Riverwalk and surrounding attractions, and selling merchandise and vendor products.

In addition to guest services, this position helps maintain the appearance and functionality of the Riverwalk through regular monitoring and care of boats, tables, chairs, umbrellas, sidewalks, and the Boathouse concession area.

Boat Captains may also serve alcohol when working on the cruise boat and must be comfortable handling cash transactions, providing change, and processing credit card payments.

Seasonal staff may also assist with HARP special events and Boathouse rental activities, including setup and teardown as needed. Staff may rotate between Boat Captain and Pedal Boat Attendant responsibilities depending on operational needs.


Pedal Boat Attendant Responsibilities

When serving as a Pedal Boat Attendant, staff are responsible for assisting guests with pedal boat rentals, ensuring the safe operation of pedal boats, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the pedal boats, pedal boat shack, dock area, and surrounding seating areas.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and professional customer service to all guests
  • Safely operate Riverwalk excursion boats after training
  • Deliver engaging historical narration during boat tours
  • Assist with merchandise and vendor product sales
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of boats, docks, and surrounding areas
  • Handle cash, process credit card transactions, and provide change
  • Assist with pre-season and post-season inventory
  • Support HARP special events, including setup and teardown
  • Assist with Boathouse rental setup and teardown when needed


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking to groups and engaging with guests
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
  • Ability to handle cash and operate a point-of-sale system
  • Ability to obtain any required alcohol service certifications if needed and of age to sell and serve alcohol


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 25–40 pounds (tables, chairs, supplies)
  • Ability to safely board and operate boats


Work Environment

This position is primarily outdoors at the Riverwalk and Boathouse. Employees should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent guest interaction and varying weather conditions.
