PDS Tech Commercial is seeking an experienced Engineer Design Checker to support a premier aviation industry leader. This is a 12-month contract-to-hire opportunity for a highly skilled engineering professional who thrives on ensuring design accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance at the highest level of aerospace standards.
Based onsite in Chandler, Arizona (85286), this role plays a critical part in validating complex mechanical design packages that directly influence mission-critical aerospace systems.
Role Summary & Impact
As an Engineer Design Checker, you will serve as a technical authority within the Mechanical & Energetics design group, ensuring all engineering drawings and models meet stringent industry and military standards. Your expertise in GD&T, design validation, and 3D modeling will help guarantee precision, manufacturability, and cost-effective fabrication across advanced aerospace systems.
Your work directly strengthens product reliability, manufacturing efficiency, and compliance across engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
Review mechanical drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable aerospace, military, and internal engineering standards
Validate dimensions, materials, tolerances, and hardware selection for fit, function, manufacturability, and cost efficiency
Perform tolerance analysis review and ensure proper interpretation of GD&T requirements
Verify 3D models prior to release to manufacturing using Siemens NX managed with Teamcenter
Create and revise fully defined parametric models and drawings in alignment with ASME Y14.5 and related standards
Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier/vendor partners to resolve design issues
Serve as a subject matter expert in GD&T interpretation and design validation
Occasionally supervise or guide engineering staff as needed
Support continuous improvement in design practices, documentation quality, and engineering workflows
Required Qualifications
10–25 years of engineering design and/or design checking experience
Strong expertise in GD&T and mechanical drawing standards (ASME Y14.5)
Advanced proficiency with CAD modeling and engineering drawing review
Experience working in complex aerospace or high-reliability manufacturing environments
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to manage time effectively and perform under schedule pressure with high accuracy
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows, and engineering design tools
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience in aerospace, defense, or high-spec mechanical systems
Experience performing tolerance stack-up analysis and design-for-manufacturability reviews
Prior leadership or mentoring experience within engineering teams
Familiarity with contract-to-hire environments and cross-functional engineering collaboration

Pay Details: $69.74 per hour
