Position Summary
The Lab Supervisor will lead daily forge lab operations on a 12-hour shift schedule while supporting production, quality, and engineering teams. This individual will oversee inspection activities, NDT processes, tooling coordination, and laboratory workflow to ensure product quality, traceability, and operational efficiency.
This position requires a strong floor presence and the ability to work closely with forging, machining, and quality teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Schedule
- 12-Hour Shift
- Monday – Friday
- 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Full-time position but hourly, non-exempt
- 20 hours of OT, weekly
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily operations within the forge laboratory and inspection areas
- Lead and coordinate NDT activities including:
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Ensure all inspections, testing, and documentation are completed accurately and on time
- Support forging and machining operations by ensuring tooling readiness and inspection support
- Coordinate tooling tracking, maintenance, storage, and replacement needs
- Review and verify inspection reports, certifications, and traceability documentation
- Train and mentor lab technicians and inspection personnel
- Monitor compliance with customer specifications, internal procedures, and industry standards
- Assist with NCR investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to quality issues
- Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Operations teams to support manufacturing flow
- Maintain safe working conditions and enforce laboratory and plant safety standards
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection efficiency, tooling performance, and quality processes
- Support audits and customer quality requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certifications preferred
- 5+ years of experience in forging, heavy manufacturing, machining, or industrial laboratory environments
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred
- Strong understanding of NDT processes and inspection methods
- Experience working with forge tooling and manufacturing support equipment
- Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and inspection documentation
- Familiarity with quality systems and manufacturing documentation requirements
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfortable working in a production-driven manufacturing environment
Preferred Experience
- Forging and heat treat environments
- ASNT certifications or NDT qualifications
- Metallurgical lab experience
- Dimensional inspection and calibration processes
- API, ASTM, ASME, or ISO standards
- ERP or manufacturing tracking systems
- Root cause analysis and corrective action processes
