Assistant Cafe Manager

Job Overview

We’re looking for a highly organized, solutions-oriented Assistant Café Manager to help lead daily operations at our Crocker Art Museum location. This role blends hospitality leadership, café operations, team management, creative programming, and operational support — perfect for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys taking ownership, and wants to be a part of a growing but small, family-owned business.

This Manager will play a key role in creating excellent guest experiences, supporting and leading café staff, improving operational systems, overseeing quality control, and contributing to business growth directly alongside the Owners. We’re looking for someone proactive, adaptable, highly accountable, and able to step in and solve problems independently without needing constant direction. Extreme organization skills are an absolute must!

Key Responsibilities

• Lead 2–3 café shifts per week and oversee smooth daily operations
• Help manage and support a team of 3–5 baristas and kitchen staff
• Maintain excellent hospitality, beverage / coffee quality, and workflow standards
• Assist with menu development, evening programming, and café growth initiatives
• Improve organization, systems, and operational efficiency
• Oversee opening/closing procedures, break flow, shift coverage, and quality control
• Support training and quality assurance across café operations
• Assist with inventory, minor financial reporting support, and tip pool tracking
• Maintain excellent communication with ownership and contribute to operational decision-making
• The right candidate may also assist in growing and overseeing our bakery and pastry program

Experience & Qualifications

• 1–2 years minimum experience in hospitality, restaurant, café, or customer-facing environments
• Leadership or management experience strongly preferred
• Specialty coffee knowledge or barista experience is a major plus
• Experience leading teams or supervising shifts in busy environments preferred

Schedule & Compensation

• Approximately 30 - 32 hours per week
• Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday availability is absolutely required
• $24 - $25 per hour, plus sales-based incentive bonuses averaging up to $2–$7/hour based on café performance
• 4% 401(k) match
