Job Description

Job Description
Artisan Baker Starfield Vineyards · Placerville, CA · Full-Time $22–$24/hour DOE
Reports to: Head Chef

About the Role
At Starfield Vineyards, the day begins before the vines catch light — and so does the bake. We're looking for an Artisan Baker to anchor the morning kitchen, someone who finds satisfaction in the quiet discipline of early prep, the rhythm of a well-managed ferment, and the craft of pulling something genuinely beautiful from the oven.
Our new culinary concept is built around Roman-style pizza al taglio, artisanal focaccia sandwiches, and seasonal sides — a menu that lives or dies by the quality of its dough. You'll work the early morning shift alongside our Pizza Chef, setting the foundation for every dish that reaches our guests.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the morning bake. Arrive early, orient your station, and execute the day's dough and baking program with precision and calm.
  • Manage fermentation. Monitor and advance long-ferment, high-hydration doughs — understanding where each batch is in its process and adjusting accordingly.
  • Bake to standard. Shape, proof, top, and bake Roman-style pizzas and focaccia to consistent results — the right open crumb, the right crust, every tray.
  • Prep the line. Prepare house-made sauces, cure and portion toppings, and process seasonal ingredients so the kitchen is fully set before service begins.
  • Maintain a clean, organized station. Uphold food safety and sanitation standards throughout your shift.
  • Communicate with the team. Hand off a fully prepped, well-documented station and keep the Pizza Chef informed of anything that needs attention.
What You Bring
  • 1–2+ years of professional baking or kitchen experience; bread, pizza, or laminated dough experience is a strong plus
  • A genuine interest in fermentation science, dough hydration, and artisan baking technique
  • The focus and self-direction to work productively in the early morning hours with minimal supervision
  • Reliability — your team's entire day is built on what you do in the morning
  • Strong sanitation habits and knowledge of food safety standards
  • Availability for early morning shifts, weekends, and special vineyard events
  • Physical stamina for a hands-on, on-your-feet shift in a warm kitchen
Shift Details
This is an early morning position. Expect start times in the range of 6:00–7:00 AM. You'll be among the first in the kitchen each day, setting the tone for everything that follows.
